Key points

Take it with you

The main points from the message, from Psalm 149:1-9. Read them again this week, and share them with someone who needs this word.

  1. THANKSGIVING MUST BE CONTINUAL AND FRESH

    God does something every day that deserves our gratitude. Many of us remember old miracles but overlook today's blessings. Ask yourself: * What has God done for me recently? * What prayer has He answered? * What danger has He protected me from? * What blessing have I taken for granted?

    *Psalm 96:1-2 *1 Thessalonians 5:18

  2. THANKSGIVING FLOWS FROM KNOWING GOD AS CREATOR AND KING

    Psalm 149:2 "Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King." The Psalmist gives two reasons to rejoice: A. God Made Us That is to say, we are not accidents. But we are products of divine purpose. B. God Rules Over Us He is not only Creator. He is King. A King protects, directs, governs and provides. When you know who holds your life, anxiety gives way to gratitude. Thank God because: * He is your creator. * He preserved you. * He has a purpose for you. * He is constantly in control.

    *Psalm 100:3 *Isaiah 64:8

  3. THANKSGIVING SHOULD BE JOYFUL AND EXPRESSIVE

    Psalm 149:3 "Let them praise his name in the dance..." Praise in Scripture was never meant to be lifeless. The Psalmist describes: * Singing * Dancing - 2 Samuel 6:14 David danced before the Lord * Musical instruments * Celebration
 God's goodness deserves a visible response. Those who remember God's goodness cannot remain silent. Think about: * Where God found you * What He delivered you from * Prayers He answered * Doors He opened
 When we remember God's goodness, praise becomes natural.

    * Psalm 150:1-6 * Philippians 4:4

  4. THANKSGIVING ATTRACTS GOD'S FAVOUR

    Psalm 149:4: "For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people..." God delights in those who are thankful. The verse says: "He will beautify the meek with salvation." God places His beauty upon thankful people. Praise attracts the presence of God and the favour of God. Where God's presence is: * Peace follows * Strength follows * Direction follows * Favour follows

    * Psalm 22:3 * Hebrews 13:15 * Psalm 5:12

  5. THANKSGIVING PRODUCES JOY IN EVERY SEASON

    Psalm 149:5: "Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds." The Psalmist speaks about praising God even while lying on the bed. This teaches us that Thanksgiving is not dependent upon circumstances. True thanksgiving continues: * During waiting seasons * During challenges * During uncertainty * During trials
 Faith thanks God before the miracle arrives. Anybody can praise after victory. Mature believers praise before victory.

    * Acts 16:25-26 * Habakkuk 3:17-18

  6. THANKSGIVING IS A WEAPON OF SPIRITUAL VICTORY

    Psalm 149:6 - "Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand." Thanksgiving is not only celebration, it is warfare. Praise: * Builds faith * Breaks discouragement * Silences fear * Magnifies God
 Throughout Scripture, victories often followed praise. Praise turns battlefields into victory grounds. Some battles are won: * Not by complaining * Not by worrying * Not by arguing
 But through prayer, the Word and praise.

    * 2 Chronicles 20:21-22 * Ephesians 6:17 * Isaiah 54:17

  7. THANKSGIVING DECLARES GOD'S FINAL TRIUMPH

    Psalm 149:7-9: "This honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD." The Psalm ends with victory and praise. It reminds us that God's people are on the winning side. No matter what we face today: * God remains faithful. * God remains sovereign. * God remains victorious.
 Thanksgiving is the language of people who know how the story ends. We do not praise because everything is perfect. We praise because God is faithful. Before we ask God for anything today, let us first thank Him for everything. If God never does another thing for us, He has already done enough through: * Salvation * Protection * Provision * Preservation * Grace * Mercy * The gift of life

    * Romans 8:37 * 1 Corinthians 15:57 * Revelation 19:1
